New! The Civil War in Maryland Reconsidered, from LSU Press
The books gathers new scholarship to overturn old thinking.
Over at the Washington Post and for the Baltimore Sun, Jonathan Pitt has reviewed a new book — THE CIVIL WAR IN MARYLAND, RECONSIDERED — edited by historians Charles W. Mitchell and Jean H. Baker. It features our Hard Histories at Hopkins friend Dr. Jessica Millward along with Project Director, Martha Jones. Millward and Jones along with University of Maryland historian Richard Bell are specially credited with bringing the perspectives of Black Americans to our understanding of how Marylanders viewed the war.
Read Pitt’s reviews for yourself here and here, and then have a read. The book is available from our friends at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, and from your local, independent bookseller.
Reminder! Did you know that you can catch up on our Hard Histories book talks - featuring historians Mia Bay, William Thomas, III, Anne Sarah Rubin, and more - on our YouTube channel? You can find those events here!
